The Netherrealm is one of many realms that appear in the Mortal Kombat franchise. It is also referred to as Hell, due to the fact it looks and acts extremely similar to the religious location with the same name. Several demons inhabit the fiery plains of the Netherrealm, and is the usual resurrection place of deceased entities, where they are later referred to as wraiths. It is where assassins Scorpion and Noob Saibot were revived into the antagonistic killing machines we know today.

The Netherealm has been revealed to be infinite in size and is literally impossible to enter unless the enterer has a genuinely tainted, evil soul. The founder of Hell is unknown, but a manual states Lucifer, the iconic fallen angel known as Satan, from Abrahamic beliefs was its former ruler. The current owner of the Mortal Kombat universe, Netherrealm Studios, is named after the demonic dimension.
