The DS-1 Orbital Battle Station (nicknamed and better known as the Death Star) was an Imperial war-machine and a moon-sized space station, appearing at Star Wars. It housed millions of stormtroopers and Imperial officers including Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin.
History
Death Star I
It was used to spread fear among the galaxy as the Galactic Empire's ultimate weapon, as it stored a super laser that could destroy entire planets in one shot. It destroyed Alderaan, Princess Leia's home planet, killing millions. Luke Skywalker, soon-to-be Jedi and rebel pilot, destroyed the space station by firing a force driven torpedo into the Death Star's power unit, blowing the entire station up and freeing the galaxy from the iron fist.
Trivia
- In 2012, the United States planned on building an actual functioning Death Star to protect the country. The petitions were signed in order to assure the station's construction, but the White House veto'd it, as it would cost too much money and too much time.
